US (CA): Watsonville’s last remaining rose grower finds its market

California Pajarosa Floral has been growing flowers on their Watsonville property, settled in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, since 1979. They are now the last remaining rose grower in the Pajaro Valley and one of the very small amount left in the country. Around 175 varieties of hydroponic roses and other cut flowers and plants are grown on more than 50 acres at Pajarosa Floral. Many of the rose varieties are grown for specific uses, such as for corsages and boutonnieres. In one of the facility’s many greenhouses, a small patch is set aside as a test area. Hundreds of rose varieties are grown in that small area, which Furman says is a way to experiment with color, shape and size. “Most growers focus on quantity,” Paul Furman said. “They grow a lot of one variety. We grow a small amount of many different varieties. I think that’s what sets us apart.” Read more at the Register Pajaronian (Johanna Miller) 2/26/2018 Kenyan comedian picks Oserian Flowers for his weekly TV show 2/26/2018 Germany: Bennie Kuipers to start with vertical farming 2/23/2018 NL: First lily flower bulb producer Planet Proof certified 2/23/2018 US (OR): Retired couple tend fields of lavender in Tumalo 2/22/2018 Fiji: Floriculture training as an empowerment tool 2/22/2018 Danish greens grower expands with first own bred peperomias 2/21/2018 Van Belle Nursery reflects on AIPH IGOTY awards participation 2/21/2018 The flowers of Colombia – A culture of sustainability 2/21/2018 “Colombia has the largest number of orchids in the world” 2/19/2018 Colombian flowers provide colorful finale to EU lawmakers’ visit 2/19/2018 Ethiopia: Lily grower moves into gypsophila 2/16/2018 Belgian breeder visits Brazilian mother plant grower 2/16/2018 Danish kalanchoe producer increases number of buds by 15% with LED 2/15/2018 Ecuador: Royal Flowers has high production despite adverse weather 2/15/2018 Australia: Eco-activist flower grower plans rooftop urban farm 2/15/2018 Alberta growers brush up knowledge in Europe 2/15/2018 Australia: Accidental grower brings back heirloom flowers 2/14/2018 Kenya: Campaign helps women in flower industry get a better deal 2/14/2018 Ethiopia: Wedding season at Qualirosa 2/14/2018 Philippines: Rose production goes hi-tech in Cavite farm Name * Email * City * Country * Display email address Comment * new code Type the code above
