Knud Nielsen Jr., who at age 23 assumed leadership of his family’s business, Knud Nielsen Company, died Oct. 16 at the age of 92.
Based in Evergreen, Ala., Knud Nielsen Company is a leading supplier of dried flowers and preserved materials. Knud Nielsen Jr.’s father, Knud Nielsen Sr., began the company in October 1913 after emigrating to the U.S. from Copenhagen, Denmark.
Knud Jr., a graduate of Auburn University and a veteran of World War II, assumed management of the company when his father died in 1947. Along with his brother, John M. Nielsen, he expanded the facilities and product line, and developed and patented landmark technology and equipment for the floral industry.
Mr. Nielsen had several positions of leadership in the floral industry, including serving as president of the Wholesale Florist & Florist Supplier Association (WF&FSA) in 1982-1983.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Connie Beeland Nielsen, two sons and a daughter, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and his brother. Click here to read his complete obituary.
