NRF_insideDo you offer online shopping? According to the National Retail Federation (NRF), you probably should. The retail trade association’s “Holiday Consumer Spending Survey” is forecasting that 46.1 percent of holiday shopping this year will be conducted online, up from 44.4 percent last year and the highest recorded in survey history.

The survey found that of those who plan to shop online, 93.1 percent planned to take advantage of free-shipping offers. In addition, 46.5 percent expected to use retailers’ in-store pickup options.

The survey also reported:

• Millennial online shoppers are most likely to use same-day delivery options, with 16.7 percent of 18- to 24-year-olds and 15.9 percent of 25- to 34-year-olds seeking that option. That compares with just 7.8 percent of the rest of the population.

• Smartphone purchasing is on the rise, with 21.4 percent of smartphone owners planning to use their devices to purchase holiday merchandise.

• Tablet owners also will be active. The survey discovered that 34.5 percent of tablet owners are expecting to use their devices to make a holiday purchase of some kind.
