Best Bouquets
“Gold and Diamonds” was the theme of this wedding, for
which the fashion-designer bride presented florist Loann Burke,
AIFD, PFCI, with an idea book of sketches and photos of
what she wanted for her dream
wedding. The bride’s bouquet was a soft and romantic
blend of ‘Osiana’, ‘Champagne’, ‘Vendela’ and ‘Akito’ roses; peonies;
Hydrangeas; and silver-dollar Eucalyptus. Crystal and diamond
accents among the flowers coordinated beautifully with the hand-sewn
crystals on the gown that the bride made for herself as well as the
custom gold-sequined gowns she designed for her six bridesmaids. Each
bridesmaid carried a smaller version of the bridal bouquet.

Best Cake Decorations
This cake was the focal point of the reception room for
florist Dawn Newkirk’s daughter’s early October wedding, which
had an elegant autumn theme. Several varieties of peach and orange-hued
roses, including ‘Milva’, ‘Peach Avalanche’ and ‘Orange Unique’ hybrid
tea roses and ‘Mumbo Orange’ spray roses, along with miniature green
Hydrangeas, created a stunning palette that beautifully complemented
the cake’s filigree icing details. The flowers were arranged in mounded
formation atop the cake and as a bountiful wreath around the pillars
that separated the top and bottom tiers. Small groupings of the same
flowers adorned the other cake tiers as well, and a wreath of roses and
Hydrangeas encircled the grand silver footed cake stand.
To create the floral wreath, Ms. Newkirk cut an 8-inch Oasis® Ring
Holder in half and cut out the areas where the pillars would meet the
ring before arranging the flowers into the floral foam ring halves. She
met with the cake baker ahead of time to ensure a perfect fit.
