In the limelight
Fun accent materials feature spray mums in fresh
springtime designs.
Traditionally used heavily during the autumn season, spray
chrysanthemums take center stage in these fun, monochromatic designs in
a contemporary spring color. The long-lasting, affordable blooms are
among the most readily available flowers on the U.S. market, and this
new ‘Everglades’ variety, with its bold chartreuse hue, is ideal for
emitting a fresh springtime feeling in your shop. The milk-jug shapes of
the vases into which the mums are placed lend themselves perfectly to
decorative treatments such as the “collars” of coiled aluminum wire that
are placed around the “necks” of the vases.
MATERIALS: Milk Jug Vases from Syndicate Sales; ‘Everglades’
spray chrysanthemums from Benchmark Growers; Apple Green Aluminum Wire
from Smithers-Oasis; Chartreuse Green Knit Wire Tubing from Accent
Décor; lily grass and ivy from favorite supplier.

HOW TO
1:
Cut a length of decorative
knit wire tubing. Pull the
tubing over the bottom of the
vase and up to the desired
height. |
HOW TO
2:
Coil aluminum wire around
a wooden dowel. Pull the
coiled wire off the dowel,
place it around the “neck” of
the vase and flatten the coils. |
HOW TO
3:
Secure ivy leaves to the
aluminum wire coils in a random
manner by placing the leaves
between spirals, using the
same concept as paper clips. |
