The market also includes celebrity speakers such as Kathryn M. Ireland of Bravo’s Million Dollar Decorators, who will present “Timeless Interiors” based on her new book of the same name, and David Bromstad, host of HGTV’s Color Splash, who will discuss his ideas for adding color to any room. A first-of-its-kind Gift + Home CEO Summit will take place Jan. 31-Feb. 1 alongside this market. The summit will offer keynote addresses by Claire Shipman, best-selling author and senior contributor for ABC News; Jon Huntsman Jr., former ambassador to China; and Robert Reich, one of the world’s leading economists, as well as panel discussions and other topical presentations designed for executives in the gift-and-home industry. Sixty-five artists and live bands will come together for an evening of networking and introducing painting lovers to new works during a special market party, MAS: ATTACK, on Saturday, Jan. 26.
The L.A. Mart and Urban Expositions, owners of the California Gift Show, are partnering to make buyers’ market experience as accommodating as possible, with shared amenities including a single badge and one directory for both shows as well as complimentary shuttle service between the L.A. Mart and the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Highlights: Now under Urban Expositions management, the winter edition of the California Gift Show will feature an expanded exhibitor base, including two new product categories tailored to the Southern California lifestyle—Boardwalk and Outdoor Living. A new “Launching Pad” product preview area will offer a preview of introductions and best-selling designs on the show floor. And special “Green By Design” and “Handcrafted” resource lists will be featured on the show’s website and in the official show directory to help retailers quickly locate the many eco-friendly and handmade products they’ll find. Free seminars will include presentations on marketing and selling “Made in America” products, social media marketing strategies, innovative and effective visual merchandising, buying strategies and inventory management, and more.
The California Gift Show will offer several joint opportunities under its partnership with the permanent showrooms at the LA. Mart. In addition to an unprecedented collection of leading lines and resources, each location will honor the other location’s admission badges, and complimentary shuttle service will run between the Los Angeles Convention Center and the L.A. Seminars will cover topics such as design and color trends; social media; sustainability; and retail strategies such as merchandising, marketing and in-store events. Education begins in advance of the market, however, with a free “NYIGF Orientation” webinar on Thursday, Jan. 10, at 2 p.m. ET.
There will be increased numbers of new handmade and gourmet housewares resources at this edition of the market—the last before NYIGF’s “Focus Forward 2013” strategic reorganization debuts in summer 2013, with the introduction of four comprehensive market collections: Home, Craft, Lifestyle and New.
Special events include Gift for Life’s 21st Anniversary “Party for Life” fundraiser on Sunday, Jan. 27, and NYIGF’s “Night on Broadway,” featuring specially priced tickets for two-time Tony Award winning musical Newsies, on Monday, Jan. 28.
The second semiannual edition of Artisan Resource, which launched last summer, will showcase a curated collection of overseas artisan enterprises offering handmade products from more than 20 countries.
