sheaf thrill

Wheat adds a harvest element to a radiant fall bouquet.

While this energetic gathering of grains and gardeny florals appears to be hand-tied, the autumnal bounty is actually arranged in a bouquet holder. The foam-filled holder will maintain hydration for the gorgeous seasonal collection, despite the sometimes hazy heat of fall. Recommend this bouquet for outdoor events or those scheduled in chic rural venues.

Materials: Dahlias, chrysanthemums, Celosia (feathered amaranth), wheat and Galax leaves from Baisch & Skinner; Oasis® Waterproof Tape and Oasis® Wedding Belle Bouquet Holder from Oasis® Floral Products; Top Notch ribbon from Lion Ribbon Company.

HOW TO 1:

Cut the stems of wheat beneath the grain heads, and save the clipped stems. Wrap the straight handle of a bouquet holder with waterproof tape so that the tape’s adhesive side is facing outward. Adhere the wheat stems around the tape-covered handle.

HOW TO 2:

Secure the stems to the handle with a binding of waterproof tape just beneath the base of the bouquet holder. Spray adhesive onto the base, or underside, of the holder, and adhere Galax leaves to conceal the holder’s underside.

HOW TO 3:

Gather wheat into a sheaf, and bind the stem ends with waterproof tape. Insert the wheat bundle into the top of the saturated bouquet holder. Arrange flowers into the bouquet holder.
