Floral Cafe Opens On Upper West Side

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — An Upper West Side florist is introducing a new concept at its newest location in the neighborhood: The floral cafe. Platshed’s new location at 555 Columbus Avenue, located between West 86th and 87th streets, is a fusion between a cafe and a flower shop. In addition to plants and bouquets, the store will serve light bites and a variety of coffee beverages by Brooklyn-based Toby’s Estate. “We are very excited to be taking the PlantShed company in a bold, new direction with our plant store / coffee shop concept,” PlantShed’s owner Eric Mourkakos said in a statement. “Previously, PlantShed has been focused on providing a wide selection of floral and garden center products and services to our Upper West Side customers and corporate clients nationwide. Now, as the company expands to additional locations throughout the city, we want to offer a different kind of retail experience: one that is interactive, curated, and comfortable.” The new floral cafe officially opened this week, and it’s the first in a citywide expansion effort by PlantShed. A downtown location on the Bowery and Prince Street is expected to open later this spring featuring a full cafe. Photos courtesy PlantShed
