Canada Hosts Inaugural Floral Design Competition

The first Maple Cup floral design competition took place in Edmonton, Alberta, in March. The event, organized by Heather de Kok, AAF, AIFD, PFCI, and hosted in conjunction with the Edmonton Home and Garden Show, featured 17 Canadian designers in a live-action challenge to create three floral arrangements in two hours.

Each designer was asked to create:

  • A fashionable bridal bouquet
  • An on-trend restaurant centerpiece suitable for a 21st birthday party
  • A prom-style boutonniere design

Inspired by the Sylvia Cup, a similar design competition hosted during the Society of American Florists’ (SAF) annual convention, the event earned positive feedback from professionals throughout the industry.

The winners of the competition are:

First place: Deniss Barahona
Second place: Gord FultonAIFD, CAFA
Third place: Lea Romanowski, AIFD, CAFA
